It comes with the strictest capital, governance, and supervision requirements — and in return grants the broadest powers and the deepest client trust of any financial licence.



A Brief History
Modern banking traces its roots to Renaissance Italy, and modern banking supervision took shape in the 20th century, when national regulators and central banks formalized licensing regimes. Today every country licenses banks, but requirements, capital thresholds, and timelines differ enormously — which makes the choice of jurisdiction a strategic decision.
